I presented a report on Women on the Rise! a gender-specific art outreach program I created at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami for at-risk teenage girls. www.mocanomi.org/education/wotr.htm
The program uses contemporary women artists (Shirin Neshat, Lorna Simpson, Yoko Ono...) as positive role models in order to increase their self-confidence and critical thinking skills. The program was launched in 2004 and has since served over 1,000 girls.
I will be presenting a lecture on the program (which could be a FAP-related event) on October 19th as part of New Jersey's Center for the Arts conference entitled, "Breaking Down the Walls, Reaching Youth At-Risk Through the Arts".
